Manufactured using processes that do not produce ozone-depleting gasses, polystyrene XPS insulation creates a stable and comfortable living environment by reducing reliance on heating and cooling appliances, saving on energy costs and prolonging the life of a building.Manufactured in Australia from high-quality extruded polystyrene, StyroTherm is a highly compressive and durable product. The density and closed cell structure of XPS foam make the product practically impervious to water, dimensionally stable and organically inert.

Fully compliant with the Building Code of Australia, StyroTherm can be used as an insulation material across a range of residential, commercial and industrial buildings. It is particularly effective for floor insulation, under slab insulation, and slab edge insulation, where it reduces thermal bridges.

Extruded polystyrene is also an ideal foam board for model-making and creating event props because it is easy to cut with a knife or wire cutter and can be carved and sanded.

Due to its density, XPS insulation is suitable for use in moist environments with no loss in thermal resistance, and will retain its dimensional stability. It is also easy to install in any weather.

FAQs

What is the best insulation for under slab?

XPS foam makes excellent under slab insulation due to its high compressive strength, moisture resistance, and durability. It also has excellent thermal resistance, keeping its R-value stable throughout its life. Like other forms of home insulation, it helps reduce heat loss during colder months and prevents heat gain during warmer months.

How do you insulate the edge of a concrete slab?

Concrete slab edge insulation is widely used to prevent thermal bridges and is popular with the trend towards passive house design. To install it, you firstly clean the exposed slab edge and apply damp-proofing material. Then, install rigid non-moisture-sensitive insulation like extruded polystyrene sheets along the edge of the slab for a foundation that will meet or exceed the insulation R-value required by the relevant building code.

What is the best insulation for thermal bridges?

Thermal bridges are weak points in the building envelope that allow heat to pass through, so to eliminate them, you need to install continuous insulation around your home's exterior. One approach is to use insulation materials with low thermal conductivity, such as rigid foam insulation, to create a continuous thermal barrier between the wall and floor.
