Styroboard polystyrene sheets are highly versatile expanded polystyrene, ideal for use across building and construction applications as well as retail and creative applications.

A registered trademark of Foamex, Australian-made Styroboard EPS products have been servicing Australia’s building, construction and signage industries for more than 30 years. Strong, durable and lightweight, expanded polystyrene foam is a well-proven insulation material for both commercial and residential construction applications; from floors to internal walls, coolrooms and even landscaping.

Durable and long-lasting, polystyrene foam products are lightweight for easy installation, offer outstanding acoustic benefits, and provide superior thermal performance. Weather-resistant and CFC-free, all Foamex products are manufactured locally according to Australian Standards, and comply with Australian Building Codes.

fire

EPS polystyrene fire properties

All Styroboard EPS products are manufactured from a fire-retardant raw material and do not present a fire hazard when correctly installed. Like other organic materials, polystyrene will burn when in contact with a flame, but it will self-extinguish when the fire source is removed.

enviro

Polystyrene foam environmental properties

No ozone-depleting or CFC gases are produced during the manufacture of Styroboard EPS products. For each kilogram of oil used in the manufacturing process, savings of up to 200kg of heating fuel can be made over the average life of a house. In turn, this plays a positive role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and the effects of global warming.

Quality-assured expanded polystyrene EPS products

Foamex manufactures a range of EPS foam products, from standard EPS sheets, polystyrene blocks and waffle pods, to customised solutions such as architectural profile shapes, bean bag fill and polystyrene boxes. All products are manufactured in Australia from the highest quality expanded polystyrene that is strength-tested against a range of stringent criteria. The innovative manufacturing technology used by Foamex to produce these products removes the need for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), so no ozone-depleting gases are produced.

FAQs about StyroBoard EPS

What is Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)?

Expanded polystyrene is a rigid cellular plastic foam material derived from petroleum and natural gas by-products. It is widely used in building and construction because its inherent strength, durability, and thermal insulation make it an ideal choice for energy-efficient buildings.

What is the difference between EPS and XPS?

EPS foam is a closed-cell insulation manufactured by ‘expanding’ the polystyrene polymer. Usually produced in block form, it is used in many applications, including polystyrene insulation, architectural profiles, void forms, protective packaging, cold storage, refrigeration units, and sign-writing displays.

Extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam is formed with a polystyrene polymer and manufactured using an extrusion process. This rigid XPS foam provides a strong, lightweight, and flexible insulation solution resistant to water absorption. XPS foam board is ideal for various commercial uses, including wall and ceiling insulation, cool rooms and refrigeration, under concrete slabs, and architectural modelling or hobby model making.

How long does expanded polystyrene last?

EPS is a highly durable building and insulation material designed to offer superior, constant thermal insulation performance over its more than 50-year service life.
