Get warmer feet this winter with underfloor insulation

Expol-Small-Logo

Expol Underfloor Insulation is an ideal way to stop cold drafts coming up from your floorboards, effectively keeping your feet warmer and stoping warmth from escaping your home this winter.Carpeted floors account for approximately 15% of heat loss within you home, but raised floors with exposed floorboards lose about 22% of heat. This figure increases to approximately 30% if you also factor in air draughts in floorboards. Given than ceiling heat loss is 35%, underfloor insulation is vital if you have exposed floorboards on a suspended wooden floor.Expol Underfloor Insulation will increase the ambient temperature of the house by preventing air draughts between floorboards, and also by creating an insulating air pocket under the floorboards, helping to trap heat in the house. The floorboards will essentially feel like room temperature and stop air draughts – a double bonus.Placed snugly between the floor joists, Expol Underfloor Insulation will ensure your home is protected from temperature extremes. Expol Insulation is safe to install, non-allergenic, environmentally friendly (no CFCs), contains a flame retardant, and its thermal performance is not affected by ageing.

Benefits of Polystyrene Packaging

Polystyrene has long been regarded as the ideal choice for packaging material due to its light weight and thermal insulation properties – coupled with the ability to custom mould to fit. Expanded polystyrene is the ideal inexpensive, lightweight packaging material, making it not only an economical way to pack products but also to transport products. The use of polystyrene for packaging for goods has seen the cost of packaging and transportation significantly reduced. This is because the energy required to manufacture and transport EPS is much less than conventional packaging materials such as timber, straw, cork or cardboard.

The benefits of polystyrene packaging are numerous:

Underfloor insulation for the whole house – not just under floorboards

banner-expol

Underfloor insulation is ideal to stop drafts coming up from floorboards, but did you know that you should also consider underfloor insulation under carpeted floors to add layers of insulation to your home?

Thick carpet floor coverings with underlay can provide a degree of floor-based insulation inherently, but they will still benefit from a thick layer of insulation sub-floor. While floorboards can account for a large percentage of heat loss, carpeted rooms also loose heat through the floors – making underfloor insulation ideal in all rooms, not just under floorboards.

Make your home energy efficient, from roof to (under) floor

Homeowners, builders and architects can contribute to many energy saving insulating projects from roof to underground in order to boost the energy efficiency of a home. Reducing energy costs is one of the most important factors in selecting insulation. Heating and cooling can consume 44 percent of all energy used in the home. In cold weather, insulation is used to keep the warm air in. In warm weather, it keeps the hot air out.

The best way to quantify how well building insulation works is by its R-value, which measures its resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power.Foamex can offer a range of insulation solutions from roof to floor, including:

Benefits of Polystyrene Diamond Pod system vs Concrete Slab system

Diamond-Pod-Logo-Small

Foamex Diamond Pods, a polystyrene waffle pod system, is leading the way in alternative concrete slab filling solutions, providing concrete slab support and increased thermal insulation. Using Foamex Diamond Pods, construction is quicker and more cost effective than traditional concrete slabs. Reasons for choosing the Foamex Diamond Pod polystyrene system over a traditional concrete slab include:

A traditional concrete slab can crack and move within the soil as a result of heat, humidity and wet weather. The Foamex Diamond Pod system will move with the building and absorb the pressure of the heave, leaving your slab in structurally intact.Excellent insulation from the natural air pockets in the expanded polystyrene (EPS) and the specially designed moulded cells within the Foamex Diamond Pod.Minimal earthworks are required as there are no internal trenches to dig.Diamond Pods bring the house further out of ground – beneficial in areas that are more prone to wet weather – the higher the better.Increased thermal “R” values from the house foundation being made up of insulating EPS with a layer of concrete over the top. This thermal mass then acts as an insulated bank.Construction is quickerMore cost effective than traditional pours as less concrete is requiredWork can continue in adverse weatherLess environmental disturbance as the slab sits on the site as opposed to in the ground

Does underfloor insulation increase likelihood of termite attack?

It is estimated that Australian homes attacked each year by termites cause up to one and a half billion dollars in damage, with the average cost of repairs per home being $7,000 after a termite attack.

Termite colonies work 24 hours a day, and signs of termite infestations can go undiscovered until serious damage is done.

Polystyrene Insulation Options – EPS and XPS

With today’s intense focus on the environmental building goals of sustainability and energy efficiency, the proper use of building insulation is more important than ever.

One of the many uses of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and extruded polystyrene (XPS) is for highly effective commercial and residential insulation: roof insulation, underfloor insulation, ceiling insulation and wall insulation. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam is a closed-cell insulation that’s manufactured by “expanding” the polystyrene polymer. Expanded polystyrene is produced in block form which is then converted into a number of applications. Expanded polystyrene can be used in wall insulation and architectural profiles, void forms, protective packaging, cold storage, refrigeration units and sign writing displays.

Can I extend a brick home using polystyrene?

EPSBuildingRenovation

One of the key challenges you may face when deciding to extend or renovate your 50’s red bricker or classic 70’s cream brick home is matching the right shade and tone of brick. The exact same bricks are very rarely still available so attempts to match the bricks can result in a  close but not exact match that looks like an add on, rather than a natural flow on from the original home.

Polystyrene is an ideal building material solution for home renovations and extensions, adding to the thermal insulation and comfort of the home while able to be rendered in any colour. So you can turn your classic brick home in to a new, improved and larger home fully rendered in any colour and texture you wish using polystyrene building materials.
