How to manage energy efficiency in the Australian climate

Australian climate insulation
Australia can be a land of extremes when it comes to weather. We are able to bear the everyday temperatures quite well, but it is only when things become extreme that we wished we had installed air-conditioning or heating in the home. Once they have been bought and installed, we’re still reluctant to use them because of the energy costs associated with the running them. Yet what most are unaware, is that insulation is one of the best ways in which to lower heating and cooling costs throughout the year.

Heating and cooling can consume 44 percent of all energy used in the home. In cold weather, insulation is used to keep the warm air in. In warm weather, it keeps the hot air out.

The best way to quantify how well building insulation works is by its R-value, which measures its resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power.

Foamex can offer a range of residential and commercial polystyrene insulation solutions, covering you from roof to slab, including:

Roof (purlin) Insulation: Designed using Styroboard XPS, Foamex PurlinK roof spacers assist with the reduction of thermal loss on commercial metal deck roofing applications as well as inverted roofs.

Permieter Insulation: Styroboard XPS extruded polystyrene is an ideal material for perimeter insulation, surrounding the shell of a building to eliminate any thermal bridging.

Wall Insulation: Styroboard EPS expanded polystyrene sheets provide protection against the effects of temperature and noise.

Underfloor insulation: Expol Underfloor Insulation is the most cost effective way to insulate your home to stop heat entering in summer and escaping in winter.

Slab Insulation: Foamex Diamond Pods are an economical and durable void former system for pouring reinforced concrete slabs to enable stronger slabs and reduce traditional labour time.

Both expanded and extruded polystyrene are extremely versatile, long lasting and cost effective, making them ideal for commercial and residential construction purposes. Foamex polystyrene provides many benefits across a range of industries, including:

-      Moisture resistance

-      Excellent insulation against extreme temperatures and noise

-      Provides no nutritional value for insects and rodents

-      Manufactured to Australian standards

-      Has long-term R-value

-      Environmentally friendly

As you can see from the above, lowering your energy usage is just a part of the overall benefits of using Foamex insulation in your next build.
