Expol for Existing Homes

If you have purchased an existing home, there is a good chance you’ve had some changes in mind since you first fell in love with your place. Maybe a lick of paint to brighten up some rooms and the outside? Rip up some carpet and let the floorboards shine through?

And when you ripped up the carpet the summer sun was warming the home, and your newly exposed floorboards made the home cooler. But now, as winter is creeping in, the first tendrils of cold air are slipping through the cracks, turning your toes to icicles. Sure, you can get a rug to cover up most of the floor, but it won’t cover all of it.

Maybe you just need to turn up your heating and have it run longer throughout the day? Of course, this will result in your electricity bill soaring through the roof. On the positive side, you’ll have a new spot for a skylight.

Yet there is a solution to stopping the cool air creeping into your home in winter and your electricity bill rising; insulation. Depending on the age of your home, there is a good chance you may already have insulation in your walls and ceiling in some form or another, but we are not talking about them.

What many owners are not aware of is there is a solution for stopping the cool air creeping through the floorboards, and it’s not re-laying the carpet or using oversized rugs.  It’s underfloor insulation.

Foamex’s EXPOL underfloor insulation is the perfect choice for existing homes. Placed snugly between the floor joists, Expol underfloor insulation will ensure your home is protected from the extreme temperatures under your floor. Expol has excellent thermal properties as it consists mainly of stabilised air; it is safe to install, non-allergenic, and also contains a flame retardant. Its thermal performance is not affected by ageing, and contains no CFC's.

So, how hard is it to install Expol under floor insulation into an existing home? Not all that hard really:

  1. Measure joist spacing for consistency
  2. Cut the Expol to fit (leave 5mm extra for firm fit
  3. Slide panels between joists
  4. Fit Expol fittings
  5. Place Expol Wireguard around cables
  6. Leave 100mm near pipes and plumbing for future maintenance

It’s that simple.
